Kate inherited a blue sapphire and diamond ring from her grandmother and wanted to transform it into her engagement ring. She opted to set the sapphire horizontally for a unique look and incorporated larger diamonds from her unused stud earrings. The stones were set low for comfortable wear, with enough space left to accommodate a future wedding band.
